St Mary's Catholic Primary School

Learning to live out our calling with compassion and love.

Photos of Previous Learning

Autumn Walk

We went on a walk to explore which signs of Autumn we could find.

Children In Need

We held a fundraising day, and took part in lots of 'Pudsey' themed activities.

Fireworks

One of the many ways we explored Bonfire Night was to listen to sounds and move in different ways as though we were fireworks.

Divali

We explored the celebration of Divali, and created our own lamps in our dough area.

Christmas

Santa sent us a trainee elf to look after and he helped us to set up a workshop.

Chinese New Year

We enjoyed learning about lion and dragon dancing so much that we decided to get out some props and instruments and have a go ourselves.

Valentine's Day

One of our Catholic Life pledges was to share our love with others so we made some bunting for the residents of the belong village.

Cookery

Shrove Tuesday

We cut out and flipped our own pancakes, then at snack time we got to try some real ones with a topping of our choice!

World Book Day 2022

We all dressed up as book characters for World Book Day. All our activities linked to different texts.

The Local Area

We use the local area when we can, and one of our activities was to make, and post, invitations for our Teddy Bears to invite them into school. As we walked back we were lucky enough to meet our school's postal workers and find out about what they were doing.

Teddy Bear Week

Our Teddy Bears joined in with lots of activities over the week, and then we rounded it up with a Teddy Bear's tea party using cakes we had baked and decorated.

Fundraising

We planted bulbs in the Autumn and cared for them until Spring. Then we added surrounds and sold them to raise funds for Marie Curie.

School Hens

We visited the school's new family of hens, and learned about how to care and feed them. We also collected eggs they had laid!

Mother's Day

For Mother's Day the children were given the theme of 'Flowers'. It was up to them to decide how they wanted to represent this. They were supported to paint, stick, create, pick and buy for their mums.

Holy Week

Our Holy Week unit focused on how Jesus' disciples were feeling. We linked this to our music making and used tuned percussion to make happy and sad music.

Bear Hunt

As part of our exploration of 'We're Going on a Bear Hunt' we set up our own sensory trail outdoors for the children to experience.

Reduce, Reuse, Recycle

Our summer term Catholic Life Pledge has got us thinking about different materials and waste. Some of the children to set up our own class recycling points to help us reduce, reuse and recycle.

Our Class Saint

Our class saint is Mary. May is her special month, so we had a celebration day. In the chapel we learned that she is often called 'Queen of Heaven', so we crowned here and gave her flowers.

Jubilee Celebrations

To mark the Queen's Diamond Jubilee we had a whole school day of celebration. In Nursery we made crowns, twizzle sticks and decorated biscuits we had baked. We finished off with a foundation stage picnic outside!

Road Safety

The crossing patrol warden came to visit us and we learned how to cross safely.

Life Cycles

Five tiny caterpillars have arrived for us to care for. We are wondering what might happen?

Book Swap

We held a book swap so that the children could choose a new story to share at home.
