If you were an engineer what would you do?

This year the children at St Mary's entered the Leaders awards competition, 'If you were an engineer what would you do?'. The children designed solutions to every day problems and world wide issues including: reusable shopping bags that never rip, machines to clean up the oceans, dissolving packaging and a drone to deliver food to the people of Ukraine.

We were delighted to be invited to an awards ceremony and exhibition at Coventry University to celebrate Aysia-Marie's achievement in being one of the year 2 winners for the west central region.

Well done to everybody who took part!

Food technology in Reception

Reception have been using up all of the rich and sweet ingredients by making and eating pancakes. The children really enjoyed visiting the food technology room and used the equipment safely.

Design technology in Year 1

Children in Year 1 designed castles as part of their DT topic. They followed a design that they had made the precious week. Within their learning partners, they needed to decide how to make their structures sturdy with various different materials.

Food technology in Year 2

Year 2 created a savoury 'seaside scene' snack for their DT topic, ‘Seaside Snacks’. This lesson focused on following instructions and we made sure that we followed our plans.

Year 5 DT visit

Year 5 visited Newcastle College to visit the Health and Social Care department. The children enjoyed accessing Christmas craft activities but with a twist. They experienced how different it would be to communicate with either a visual or hearing impairment. The children found this an extremely informative experience.

DT in Year 6

One of Year 6's design and technology units is to design, bake and construct a gingerbread house. The children used the new food technology facilities for a baking session. The children really enjoyed measuring their ingredients and using their own templates to make their houses.
