National Story Week and Science

Nursery

Nursery have been exploring the Gingerbread Man tale this week. There challenge was to find a way for him to get safely over the river. The children were very inventive. They made bridges, boats, steps and even a surf board! They also baked gingerbread biscuits to take home.

Reception

The children in Reception have completed a STEM project linked to Goldilocks and the three bears. They have been engineers and made a seat for all three bears.

They worked collaboratively to design their inventions then refined their end products. They used a range of construction resources to see what does the job best... hopefully Goldilocks and the three bears like their new furniture!

Year 1

What a challenge! The children in Year 1 were so excited to act as engineers in order to help Rapunzel escape from her tower. They worked in teams to think about creative solutions for helping her to escape. Their designs and creations were very clever and the children loved talking about what they did and what they used .

Year 2

Year 2 have been engineers for the Three Little Pigs this afternoon. They have designed, built and tested houses for the pigs to stay safe in away from the Big Bad Wolf! Well done for working in a team and being resilient.

Year 3

Year 3 have been thinking about the story of Jack and the Beanstalk and how they could help Jack bring a golden egg back down the beanstalk without it breaking. The children really enjoyed solving the problem. There was only had a few breakages!

Year 4

Year 4 had lots of fun reading the story of Hansel and Gretel. They then designed and made catapults that they would use to break into the witches house.

Year 6

As May is National Story Month, year 6 used the story of The Three Billy Goats Gruff and became engineers. In groups, they were tasked with designing and building a bridge to withstand the weight of three soft toys for thirty seconds. The real challenge was to think carefully about how to best use the resources provided to us. They built, tested and thought about how they can improve their designs.
